Purpose
Observation of fractures, such as depicting undetectable fractures in frontal views and determining the extent of fractures

Prior confirmation
Confirm the purpose of the examination.
Remove any obstacles that may interfere.
Check either side during the examination.

Positioning

Sitting position.
Align the height of the hand with the shoulder.
Place the palm downward and at a 45° angle to the cassette.
(If the focus is on the metacarpal bone, keep the index finger and thumb together.)
Align the MCP joint with the center of the cassette.
Keep each finger slightly separated.

CR, distance, field size
CR : Perpendicular incidence directed toward the MCP joint of the third finger.
Distance : 100cm
Field size : It should include from the fingertip to the styloid process of the ulna.

48kV / 4mAs

The bases of the third to fifth metacarpal bones overlap, but the bodies of the metacarpal bones do not overlap.
The DIP, PIP, and MCP joints should be open.
