Purpose
Suitable for observation of Hill-Sachs defects (defects in the posterior portion of the humeral head due to anterior dislocation of the shoulder).
The posterior lateral aspect of the humeral head can be observed.

Prior confirmation
Presence of fractures or dislocations. If in doubt, do not move arm.
Remove any obstacles.

Supine.
Align the humeral head with the center of the cassette.
Raise the arm with the upper arm perpendicular (or 135 deg) to the cassette.
Bend the elbows and place the palms of the hands on the head. Tighten the armpits so that the humerus is parallel to the sagittal plane.

CR, distance, field size
CR : Oblique incidence at 10-30° in a caudal direction toward the intersection of the crease of the armpit and the humeral shaft. Vertical incidence for a 135° elevation of the upper arm.
Distance : 100cm
Field size : The upper side of the irradiation field includes the humeral neck. The left and right sides include the humeral head and should be kept to the minimum extent necessary to reduce scattered radiation.。

Exposure condition
70kV / 16mAs
Grid ( + )
Suspend respiration.

The posterolateral aspect of the humeral head, the site of the Hill-Sachs defect, is clearly observed.
The clavicle and coracoid process overlap.
The long axis of the humerus is parallel to the sagittal plane.
